VIEWLOG(1M) VIEWLOG(1M)

NAME    [Toc]    [Back]

viewlog - view the	system administration log

SYNOPSIS    [Toc]    [Back]

     /usr/sysadm/bin/viewlog

DESCRIPTION    [Toc]    [Back]

viewlog displays the contents of the system administration	log
/var/sysadm/salog (see salog(4)) in a text	window. For command lines in
salog, viewlog displays the date and the command.	For other lines,
viewlog displays either Error:, Warning:, or Info:	as appropriate and the
     message. Non-command lines are indented.

GUIDES    [Toc]    [Back]

Guides, also called "tasks," are interactive windows that lead users
through the steps necessary to perform various system administration
tasks, such as adding new user accounts and configuring networking	on the
     system.

A guide typically consists	of a series of pages that prompt users to
enter information or select options. A user navigates through guide pages
using the Prev and	Next buttons (or corresponding arrow keys). When the
user reaches the last page	of a guide and clicks the OK button, the
system executes one or more commands to perform the system	administration
task. These commands are located in /usr/sysadm/privcmd. See runpriv(1M)
for more information about	privileged commands.

Many of the guides	require	that a user either know	the root password or
be	assigned the necessary privileges (using the PrivilegeManager(1)) in
     order to perform the task.

     Set System	Administration Log Options
The Set System Administration Log Options guide,	which comes up
when you	press viewlog's	"Options..." button, lets you specify
how big the log can get before it's rotated, and	whether	or not
messages	to salog are copied to syslogd(1M). The privilege
	       needed for this task is:

o Set	System Admin Logging Options (setlogopt(1M)).
