NAME    [Toc]    [Back]

startppp - Starts the pppd daemon for PPP dial-in connections

SYNOPSIS    [Toc]    [Back]

       /usr/sbin/startppp

DESCRIPTION    [Toc]    [Back]

A system configured for PPP dial-in connections answers
calls from remote systems. If your system is configured
as a PPP dial-in system, a getty process is continuously
run on the serial line that is connected to a modem. When
a call comes in, getty prompts for a login name. If the
login name matches a PPP user name entry in the
/etc/passwd file, getty starts startppp as a login shell.
The startppp program then invokes the /usr/sbin/pppd command
 with no arguments.

See Network Administration: Connections for information on
setting up your system as a PPP dial-in system.
