vout - composite video output control panel
vout [-x xoff] [-y yoff] [-mode ntsc|pal] [-q] -[f]
The IRIS RealityEngine provides two video outputs: a RGB video output
(which is normally connected to the graphics monitor), and a composite
video output. vout provides an easy-to-use graphical interface to
control the composite output. It also controls several parameters of the
RGB video output.
The composite output is available at the BNC connector labeled
`composite', and at the S-Video connector. Both connections show the same
signal. The video output is always a region of the graphics screen; the
region that is output is selected by the `Set Output Area' button.
The composite output is only available when running a standard VOF on the
graphics output. It is not available when running an interlaced, field
sequential, or stereo VOF; or when running a VOF that is smaller in area
than the desired composite output. See the setmon man page for details on
setting the graphics output VOF.
vout provides the following controls:
Format [Toc] [Back]
Select either NTSC (North American 525-line TV format), or PAL
(European 625-line TV format) for the composite output.
Signal [Toc] [Back]
This selects the type of signal connected to the genlock input:
either a noisy signal (typically from a VCR), or a clean signal
(labelled Other). This should normally be set to Other, unless you
are having problems genlocking to your signal source.
Set Output Area
Allows you to select the area of the screen to be sent to the
composite output. The selected area coordinates are shown in the
Lower Left X and Y boxes. Alternately, numbers may be directly
entered in these boxes. Note that the hardware requres that the X
coordinate be a multiple of 5; vout will automatically round it
appropriately.
Window Size [Toc] [Back]
This is the size (in pixels) of the composite output. This is
automatically changed to 646 x 486 in NTSC mode, and 768 x 576 in
PAL mode.
Genlock [Toc] [Back]
This selects either Stand Alone or Input as the genlock source. Note
that this genlocks the RGB graphics output, and not the composite

output.
Phase [Toc] [Back]
Two knobs (for coarse and fine) vary the genlock phase.
vout provides the following menu selections:
File/Quit
Exit the vout program. No settings are saved.
Options/Key Enable
This enables and disables the key signal.
Options/Setup
Enable or disable the setup (sometimes called pedestal) from the
composite video output.
Options/Video Pro Panel
This launches a second window of controls, described below.
Sync Select [Toc] [Back]
This allows you to individually enable and disable sync on the Red,
Green, Blue, and Alpha channels. This affects the RGB output, and
not the composite output.
The vout Encoder Controls window allows you to vary the following:
Genlock Delay [Toc] [Back]
Chroma Phase [Toc] [Back]
Chroma Center [Toc] [Back]
H phase [Toc] [Back]
-x xoff
Specify the initial x position of the right hand side of the encoder
window.
-y yoff
Specify the initial y position of the bottom of the encoder window.
Note that 0 is the top of the screen; therefore, to place the
encoder window at the bottom of a 1280 x 1024 screen, you would
specify -y 1023.
-mode ntsc|pal
Specify whether the encoder is to start up in NTSC or PAL mode. Note
that the argument must be specified in lower case.

-q
Don't enter vout; process and set the -x, -y, and -mode flags, and
then exit. This is useful for setting the encoder from a program or
shell script.
-f
Use the factory defaults, and not the previously saved user values.
This flag is for use with the MultiChannel Option only.
vout works only on the IRIS RealityEngine, RealityEngine2, and VTX.
setmon(1g)
The composite output may not be genlocked.
If a MultiChannel Option board is installed, the operation of vout is
totally different from that described above.
