     REAPER(1) Silicon Graphics REAPER(1)

     NAME    [Toc]    [Back]
reaper - manages a login session

     SYNOPSIS    [Toc]    [Back]
	  reaper

     DESCRIPTION    [Toc]    [Back]
reaper is responsible	for managing a login session via xdm.
When a user logs in through xdm, reaper is executed as part
of the session. It places a property	on the root window
which	specifies that a login session is in progress, and
then exits. When this property is removed from the root
window, via execution	of endsession, the session is
terminated. xdm then	puts up	the login window and awaits
the next login. If reaper is	not included in	the user's
session, such	as in a	$HOME/.xsession	script,	the session
property will	not be present and the session will terminate
	  when $HOME/.xsession exits.

     NOTES    [Toc]    [Back]
reaper is not	run during "failsafe" login sessions.
"failsafe" sessions are terminated by	exiting	the login
	  shell.
