NAME    [Toc]    [Back]

dminfo - display information about	digital	media files

SYNOPSIS    [Toc]    [Back]

     dminfo [options] file1 [... fileN]

DESCRIPTION    [Toc]    [Back]

dminfo displays information about the contents of each of the files.

Supported digital media files are those readable by dmconvert(1), and
include many audio, image,	and movie formats.

OPTIONS    [Toc]    [Back]

     -h
	  Display help.

     -s
Use short format for describing files.

     -l
Use long format for describing files. Currently, this provides
additional information only for some audio files.

     -q
Quiet	errors. Do not	print error messages.

EXAMPLES    [Toc]    [Back]

     Print help	information.
     dminfo -h

     Describe the indicated files.
     dminfo -l file.aiff file.rgb file.movie file.mps

Describe the digital media	files in the current directory.
     dminfo -s -q *

NOTES    [Toc]    [Back]

dminfo is equivalent to "dmconvert	-D".

In	the case of MPEG-1 bitstreams, dminfo will display estimated lengths
for the audio and video tracks. (The only	way to determine the exact
length of a track in an MPEG file is to parse the contents	of the entire
     file.)

Some file formats do not describe some aspects of the data	they contain.
For example, an SGI image file does not describe the pixel	aspect for the
sampled image, or whether the image originated as a single	frame or as a
pair of interlaced	video fields. In cases	like these, the	values of the
corresponding track parameters are	not displayed.

AUTHOR    [Toc]    [Back]

Silicon Graphics Computer Systems. Portions developed at the San Diego
     Supercomputer Center.

dminfo uses the SGI Audio File, Compression, ImageVision, and Movie
Libraries to access digital media data.

Many of the image file formats are	supported through the San Diego
Supercomputer Center's image library (libim, libsdsc). This library is
available from anonymous ftp at sdsc.edu in the
/pub/sdsc/graphics/imtools/ directory. For more information, contact
     [email protected].
