mouse - panel for setting mouse acceleration, mapping, click speed
/usr/sbin/mouse
mouse allows the user to modify mouse acceleration, mapping (left- or
right-handed), and click speed (delay between clicks in a double-click).
The user can launch this panel from the toolchest (Desktop > Customize >
Mouse) or at a Unix shell command line. Like most other customization
panels, the mouse panel has the ``runonce'' feature, meaning only one
instance of the application will run at one time. Attempting to launch
the application a second time will have the effect of deiconifying the
application window or popping it to the top on the current desk.
For mouse acceleration, the Finer Control button allows the user to
change acceleration and threshold sliders independently. The
acceleration slider controls how many times faster the mouse pointer will
travel when it moves more than some number of pixels in a short time; the
threshold slider controls that number of pixels.
If both the acceleration and threshold sliders are set all the way to the
right, then the mouse pointer will travel far across the screen when
moved just slightly. If both the acceleration and threshold sliders are
set all the way to the left, then the mouse pointer will travel only a
few pixels when moved, and the user will need to move the mouse over many
pixels to obtain that small shift in the pointer's position. If the
acceleration is zero, then the mouse pointer will always move the same
distance across the screen, no matter how fast or slowly the user flicks
the mouse.
The acceleration and threshold values corresponding to each of the radio
buttons have been modified between IRIX 5.3 and IRIX 6.2. The IRIX 6.2
mouse panel supports a wider variety of mouse hardware, including the new
Logitech mouse provided with SGI's Impact platform.

$HOME/.Sgiresources
$HOME/.desktop-<hostname>/panelsession
The mouse panel does not read from any files. Most user settings are
changed into xset commands and written to the file $HOME/.desktop-
<hostname>/panelsession. The commands stored in this file are executed by
/usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession.dt at the start of the user's session. Because

the double-click speed setting is an Xt resource, it is saved in
$HOME/.Sgiresources, which is treated like a .Xdefaults file.
The .Sgiresources file is not intended to be edited directly by end
users. If, for example, the user edits the file and makes the
*multiClickTime resource too small (smaller than 90), then after logging
out and logging back in the user may be unable to double-click. If this
happens, launching Desktop > Customize > Mouse on the toolchest and
selecting the Slow radio button under Click Speed should make the mouse
more responsive.
